McDermott to Speak on Social Security and Medicare
Mark McDermott will speak on “Security in Retirement, Keeping the Promise of Social Security and Medicare,” on Tuesday, January 24, at 7 p.m.
An advocate for workers, retirees, and families; McDermott is a noted speaker on social justice. He serves on the board of Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement Action (PSARA).
The meeting will be held at at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler Street, Port Townsend.
Retired union electrician Diane Jones is organizing the event and working with other local PSARA members who want to bring the group’s advocacy activities to the North Olympic Peninsula.
“Our region seems like a good fit for PSARA,” said Jones. “There are a lot of seniors, and many are just getting by. They count on programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.”
PSARA encourages civic engagement and advocacy for these social programs. “Americans pay into these programs while they’re working. They should be able to count on them when they retire,” Jones added.
